Jazz
Workshop The 60's were noted for the innovations in Modern Jazz established by John Coltrane and other avant-garde players. Cal Tjader, Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Horace Silver,and Sonny Rollins. Without exception, all the great musicians of this period played the Blackhawk, the Jazz Workshop or both venues. After the Black Hawk,the towns top jazz club closed in 1963,all the great touring acts appeared at the Jazz Workshop. Wes Montgomery played two weeks each year after his gig at the Monterey Jazz Festival throughout the early 60`s. Small intimate mind-blowing jams and after a full night of the hottest music we would go to the International pancake House for breakfast. At this time it is back to being a music club.
